The sculptor
The Freedom Monument was made by the Georgian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli.
He also created the monument’s central figure — St George slaying the dragon, cast in gilded bronze and 5.6 m tall.

The monument stands in the middle of the square and consists of a 35 m granite column.
On top of the column is the statue of St George, the square’s main landmark.
