Symbolism
St George is one of the most venerated saints in Georgia, so his figure is read as a symbol of freedom and victory.
The gilded bronze catches the sunlight and makes the monument the square’s main visual landmark.
How to see it
The monument stands in the centre of the square, a few steps from the metro exit, so it is impossible to miss.
The best view opens up as you walk down Rustaveli Avenue towards the square.
