Why it is worth seeing
The square is Tbilisi's central node: the metro, Rustaveli Avenue and the streets of Old Tbilisi all meet here.
The Freedom Monument — a tall granite column topped by a statue of St George — is one of the city's most recognisable landmarks.
What you see and how long it takes
The square itself takes 15–20 minutes to look around; its real value is that it is the starting point for the whole centre.
The metro station opens directly onto the square, along with bus and taxi routes.
Who might skip it
If you are after somewhere quiet and green, the square is busy and traffic-heavy — Rike Park or Mtatsminda suit that better.
The square is not a landmark in itself so much as a starting point; its value lies in its surroundings and connections.
