What is within walking distance
The square sits at the southern end of Rustaveli Avenue, where the streets of Old Tbilisi begin, so several major sights are only minutes away on foot.
Old Tbilisi, Sololaki and Abanotubani start just below the square, while Rustaveli Avenue runs north from it.

What requires a climb
Narikala sits on the hill above Old Tbilisi and Mtatsminda rises above the centre. Both can be climbed on foot, but the cable car (from Rike Park) or the funicular makes it far easier.
How to plan half a day
A standard route runs: the square → Rustaveli Avenue → Old Tbilisi → the Bridge of Peace → Narikala.
